Happy Monday- hope you are staying warm!
A peek at our week:
Readers Workshop- We are moving into retell stories. Students will be able to tell the various parts of a story both by writing and verbally retelling different stories. This week we are working on identify the character and setting of the story- along with one even that happened in the story. Practice at home as you read with your little one.
Phonics/Word Work- Short A; working on the short vowel sound within word families. This week words families are - at, am, ap, ad, an- each day we will work decoding basic CVC word with these word families- example- pat, man, ham-. It is important students are able to isolate each sound- along with blending the beginning sound with the word family.
Writing- sentence building! We are working on building better sentences and how sentences need to make sense- we will work on lots of sentence scrambles during our writing period.
Math- addition- understanding that addition is adding to, putting together, joining two numbers. Our focus is on adding one number to another using manipulatives, drawing out our thinking, and creating equations.
RAZ kids- awesome jobs to those who have been logging on. Reminder you can use those books to complete book log.
Book Logs- please see updated format on your child's book log this week. The new format will include two books to log, along with their rating of the rate.
Cooler weather- please dress for the weather. Practice zipping coats at home- students need to do this independently. Hats, gloves, scarfs- I taught the kids to stuff into the sleeves of their coats when they come in for recess.
OUT of the building tomorrow- I will be out tomorrow- Tuesday- attending meetings. All plans are set for the sub.
Walk-a- thon; see picture attached in e-mail. We need some more funds! We are in the lead, but only then a little. Ask around : ) we have until the 19th.
Snacks-Reminder to pack snacks each day; something small. Example- goldfish, fruit snacks, fruit. I have a small stash in the room for emergencies.
