Long Vowels! We are now on the journey of recognizing long vowel patterns- this is where it gets tricky! Long vowel patterns are very very very important.
- Check out the Parent Handy Helper attachment in the Day 83! e-mail.
This week we are working on Magic e. Magic e- tells the vowel to say its name in words like cake- hole- tube.
and long vowel a as well- we will spend the next two weeks on the patterns ai and ay.
Readers Workshop- What is a bold word? What is a glossary? How do we use them and what is their purpose in a text.
Writing- we are putting together our first information text- a book all about Grizzly Bears. Next week the students will be researching their own animal- collecting facts and using all the parts of an informational text.
We have a focus on a table of contents, why there are bold words, and what is a glossary.
Math- adding in any order; recognizing that equations can be flipped and still equal the same sum, an open number line- recognizing this strategy to help us add quickly. This is will need some assistance if your child is not fluent in their addition facts.
Read to Succeed- Forms were sent out last week. IF your form got lost please send me an email I will pass along another copy. Read to Succeed is a reading incentive that asks for your child to track all reading for up to 6 hours. All documented books and reading time will be entered in and your child will receive a ticket to Six Flags Great America.
+ this is taking place of the classroom book log until February 15th.
Spelling Journals- are in red folder.
Cold Temps- anything below 32 the children will be staying inside for in door recess.
